Course Description

 

This course introduces students to the exciting and evolving technology of multimedia.   Students will learn the terminology, functions, and concepts of multimedia as well as learn to design and produce several types of multimedia projects.

 

Course Objectives

 

Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to demonstrate an understanding of  the :

 

  1. terminology, functions, and concepts of multimedia development
  2. characteristics and use of several types of multimedia software projects
  3. hardware requirements and options associated with multimedia
  4. role of multimedia in various technology settings
  5. advantages, disadvantages and limitations of multimedia
  6. design and creation of multimedia projects and web pages

 

Instructional Format

 

The course objectives will be met through demonstrations, hands on exercises, and collaboration.  Because this is a fast evolving field, articles on the internet and tutorials will also be used to introduce new software and supplement the textbook.

 

Exploring and learning new software is a collaborative effort; students are encouraged to find a partner to work with during the course. Students should work on projects outside of class.

Grading Policy

 

Mini Projects, FrontPage, Fireworks, Director, Media Coder 30%

Major web page project using multimedia 50%

Collaboration/participation 20%

 

Attendance Policy

 

Because a great deal of learning comes from class discussions and activities, students are encouraged to attend and participate in all class sessions.  At times an absence from class is unavoidable.  In order to accommodate such times, three absences are allowed without penalty.  Each absence thereafter will result in 2 points deducted from the final grade.

 

Dismissal from Course

 

Students who accumulate eight absences after the add/drop date will be dropped from the course.

 

Academic Dishonesty Policy

 

Copying work from other students or the Internet and using it as one’s own or cheating on an exam or quiz will result in a failing grade for the course.
