Understanding Human Anatomy and Physiology

COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course is designed to acquaint students with the
structure and function of the human body. An integrated presentation of the
anatomy and physiology of organ systems is given.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
(Learning Outcomes):
After completing this course, students will be able to:
1. Describe the
major organ systems of the human body
2. Explain how
those organ systems work
3. Explain how
many disease processes interfere with normal function
4.
Explain how the body defends against disease
5.
Identify and explain the inter-relatedness of the bodys
systems
ASSESSMENT:
The students attainment of
the learning outcomes will be assessed in the following ways:
The students understanding of
the terminology, concepts, and theory of human anatomy and physiology will be
measured through weekly quizzes, three exams, each covering
one-third of the course, and weekly written assignments.
ASSIGNMENTS:
IMPORTANT! Students are expected to read the
material in the text OUTSIDE OF CLASS.
Students will be expected to complete assigned
readings and written assignments by their due dates. Students will
also study the basic key terms and the clinical key terms at the end of
chapters, review the study questions, and complete the objective questions to
be turned in at the end of each chapter. These study questions as well as the
objective questions will be included on the quizzes and tests. Quizzes and
exams will be constructed on a True or False, Multiple-Choice, Matching,
Identification, Fill-In, and Short- and Long-Essay format.

sessions and be prepared to discuss the assigned readings and written
homework. If a student must miss a
class session, it is the students responsibility to arrange other ways of
obtaining the information covered in class. Please notify the instructor in
advance if you have to miss a class. Students with excessive absences may
not receive a passing grade.

Students who plagiarize papers and projects or cheat
on exams will receive zeros for the work in question and may fail the course.
