Keep
a log of the following projects:
Project
#1:
Throughout the course, keep a log of the commercials you
see on television. Observe them closely and make a note of the following:

The product being advertised
·
Number of times men vs. women are pictured
·
The role of the men and women portrayed in the ad
·
The dress of the men and women
·
The unspoken messages about men and women
Project
#2:
Look through a couple issues of a popular children’s / young person’s magazine (For example – Highlights, Turtle, Spider, Ladybug, Nickelodeon, Disney, Seventeen, YM, Sassy, MH-18, and the following…….

As you scan the magazines, make a note of the following:

The roles of girls and boys / men and women in the
feature articles and stories
·
The number of times girls and boys / men and
women are portrayed
·
The focus of the advertisements in the magazine
·
What are the (spoken and unspoken) messages that the
magazine gives you about being male or female?
Project
#3:
During the course of the trimester watch one children’s
or young people’s popular movie or video and note the following:
·
The gender of the central character
·
The role of the girls and boys / men and women
portrayed in the film
·
The dress of the men and women
·
The spoken and unspoken messages about being male or
female

#4:
Choose a project from the Gender Equity workbook (or create one of your own) and perform gender equity research with your class or co-workers.

#5:

Number of times girls and boys are called on
·
Number of times girls and boys are praised
·
Level of difficulty of questions for girls and boys
·
Eye contact with boys and girls
·
Body position with girls and boys
·
Language, tone with girls and boys
·
How girls and boys are disciplined
