COURSE DESCRIPTION: This
course will address the current issues in the education industry, how it is
changing and its impact on students, educators and society.
COURSE POLICIES:
This course will meet in the flesh only two times – Wednesday, July 10th,
and Weds, August 21st. All other meetings will take place on the Thomas College
Angel conferencing
system from 7:00 to 8:30 PM, both synchronously and asynchronously. It is thus absolutely essential that
students have computers with Internet access.
There will be two papers. In the first, due Wednesday, Aug. 7th, all students will address the same topic, which can be accessed via the syllabus below.
For the second paper, students will choose their own topics (related to the course material) by 7/24, submitting them via email to the instructor for approval and suggestions. The paper will be due Weds, Aug. 21st. This paper should be a well-researched analysis of one of the issues impacting education and society today, including your recommendations of possible solutions. Please provide a 1 page abstract for all class members.
The student's grade will be based
equally on class participation and the two papers.
SYLLABUS ALERT!! This is a dynamic
document. Check the schedule frequently for additions. I often run across
something interesting during the course and add it on.
